Eyelash

Another scrappy and cuddly quilt using Westminster fabrics and a creamy background. I quilted this first “in the ditch” and then hand tied the cream coloured boxes with embroidery floss. This is a very traditional way of quilting.

My husband named the quilt because he says the embroidered ties look like eyelashes.

Main Fabric Line: Westminister Fabrics circa 1990’s

Accent Fabric: Alison Glass “crochet” in a dark cream

Backing: Benartex peacock feather print

Binding: Timeless Treasures stripe

Pattern: Granda Mary’s 5 Patch

Quilting: Straight line quilting in the ditch(which means the stitches are hidden more or less in the seams) plus hand ties in the large cream blocks.

A note about free motion quilting. This is achieved using a sewing machine with no feed dogs. Fabric is moved under the needle to “doodle” a design. Speed and direction is controlled entirely by hand movements.

If you plan to use this quilt on a bed please measure your bed and take note of the dimensions of the quilt. It can be folded at the foot of a larger bed for napping or for colder nights.

Materials: All new 100% cotton quilting fabrics. Quality 100% cotton batting which is natural, breathable, soft and adds a lovely cosiness to the quilt. Double fold binding is machine stitched to the quilt. Fabrics have not been pre-washed so first washing will produce a delightfully wrinkly result and 3-5% shrinkage will occur.
